This “One of a Kind” vase combines several of techniques including Night & Day with an applies design in gold
The body looks deep shiny black decorated with images in luxurious gold. “The hands of a conductor baton in control”, “sheet music” and “Salle Gaveau, 19 Decembre 1998 Paris” emblazoned on the back while the base is clearly signed and dated by the artist. Inside is illuminated glass with a blue marbled effect to a neat rolled rim on the top of this substantial vase.
Known as Day and night vases because the designer patented a glass style that allow light through. There are two layers of glass with the inner layer a blue marble effect that is translucent and lets light through lit from the inside the vase becomes a spectacular sculpture.
Jean-Claude Novaro (1943 – 2014) is today recognized as one of the greatest glass blowers of our time. His unique and distinctive art-glass creations are highly prized and sought after by art connoisseurs world-wide. He had connections to La Salle Gaveau (Paris) so this vase was probably a commissioned piece made at the time the concert hall was going through renovations
